A possibility of snow in Austin, you say? Tuesday’s expectant snowfall was preceded by a blizzard of reactions on social media.
Some greeted the possibility of snow with excitement:
My 3 day weekend just turned into a 4 day weekend. Gotta love snow days in Austin! pic.twitter.com/PcsfZ3uEO4— Claudia (@TexasEx10) January 16, 2018
how considerate of austin to snow again when it’s not the week before finals so we can actually have fun in the snow without the crippling knowledge that i’m avoiding 14 assignments— shelby mason. (@shelbyeezus) January 15, 2018
This could be the first time since I moved to DC it’s warmer here than in Austin. Enjoy the snow TX. pic.twitter.com/6usOMiyFQm— Lauren Luxenburg (@LaurenC_Lux) January 16, 2018
Others were less enthused by the rare chance of an Austin snow:
Nervous about how the drive to work tomorrow is gonna be. Roads aren't treated for snow here, and neither are the Austin drivers. Fingers crossed that the sliding is kept to a minimum— Jeremy Dooley (@JeremyNDooley) January 16, 2018
Another snow day in Austin 😒 pic.twitter.com/AGotnHo313— Ashley Bridgewater (@asbridgewater) January 16, 2018
Some commented on the city’s ever-robust response to even the threat of snow:
Offices and schools in Austin getting snow days before the snow has even started falling. Wish I had this luxury growing up!— Blake (@blakeerwin) January 16, 2018
It’s going to snow tomorrow (and by tomorrow, I mean ONE DAY) here in Austin. Naturally, the impeding death from the <1 of snow from the snowpocolypse has caused wide spread panic in these parts. One of day of snow in Austin and these people act like they gotta store food for their bomb shelters 😑 can’t get nothing at the store.— Musiq_CJ (@YaBoiCKeyz) January 16, 2018
Classes @UTAustin are canceled today for "extreme weather". Meanwhile, at the University of Missouri? Drive slowly, carry a blanket, and dress in layers. My daughter, in grad school at Austin, has a snow day for a bit of sleet. 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/wdJhc8Ysbb— Dee (Stable Genius) Mac (@deelymac) January 16, 2018
Just went to the grocery. I've never seen it so cleared out in my life. No bananas. No tomatoes. Eggs, milk, & bread are low. Everyone in the store was talking about the upcoming winter storm. #Lakeway TX #atxwx #atxweather pic.twitter.com/okSeyEZML6— Tricia (@atxwxgirl) January 16, 2018
And others still, who awoke to an icy Austin, asked, “What snow?”
Cancel all this school and no snow. Smdh— Austin Ham (@austin_ham94) January 16, 2018
So much for all that ice and snow , smh weather people, you have one job🤦🏻♂️— Austin Guerra (@Austin9lildog) January 16, 2018
So Austin called a preemptive snow day, convinced that snowpocalypse was on its way, and then nothing happened. It’s like calling in a sickie in case you might get a cold next week. I like it.— Ross Lester (@rosslester) January 16, 2018
they predicted snow here in Austin.— André Ross (@AndreLamar_) January 16, 2018
I wake up looking for a beautiful sea of white everywhere.
not a damn thing on the ground.
the wind chill is 12° and it’s this cold for absolutely no reason at all.
