Ever wanted to see Austin through the eyes of a tourist during South by Southwest? YouTube star Casey Neistat gave his six million subscribers a glimpse into his trip to the Live Music Capital of the World on Monday.
Neistat, who recently sold his video startup to CNN, was in town to discuss his partnership with the news network.
In his video, titled “Nintendo Switch on an Airplane” he utilizes a video technique called swish panning, in which the camera quickly spins around. Neistat uses this to quickly jump from scene to scene as he documents his quick stay in Austin.
His video begins with him catching a plane and “unboxing” the recently released Nintendo Switch console as the plane prepares to take off. After playing the new “Zelda: Breath of the Wild” video game, Neistat lands in Austin and heads to the swanky J.W. Marriott hotel in the heart of SXSW.
The video features scenes around town, including the south shore segment of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, a closed Barton Springs Pool, and a peek inside the executive lounge of the J.W. Marriott hotel (which seems to be filled to the brim with cookies).
Drone footage make for a highlight of the seven-minute clip, as the camera flies above Lady Bird Lake, passes under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge and hovers over downtown Austin.
After a quick board ride back to his hotel, where a chocolate guitar and several other treats await him, the video fittingly ends with a guitarist playing on a downtown sidewalk in front of a bus promoting the HBO show “Veep.” Watch the whole video below.
