A stabbing that critically wounded a Fort Bliss soldier in El Paso's Cincinnati Avenue Entertainment District was filmed by security cameras, court documents state.

Army Sgt. Devin Vaughn Graham, 24, was stabbed seven times during a Jan. 24 fight outside the Rockin’ Cigar Bar & Grill, according to a criminal complaint affidavit filed by El Paso police.

Yaanan Uriel Evans, 21, was arrested Feb. 4 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the stabbing.

The complaint affidavit states that witnesses saw Evans and Graham get into an argument that escalated into a fight and a stabbing.

Several cameras recorded the fight, which occurred about 2:20 a.m. on a Sunday in the popular nightlife area in Kern Place near the University of Texas at El Paso.

The complaint states that police "obtained a recording that clearly showed" Evans stabbing Graham. The weapon was described as a knife or cutting instrument.

Evans was wearing a red track suit and another business camera recorded his vehicle in the neighborhood, the complaint states. Evans left the scene.

When police arrived on a call of a stabbing, officers found Graham with several stab wounds. He was alert but unable to speak with police before he was taken to University Medical Center of El Paso, the complaint states.

Graham had been stabbed seven times in the back, left leg and the buttocks, according to the complaint. He had part of a lung removed during two surgeries and was in intensive care for six days. He will require out-of-town physical rehabilitation.

Last week, officers with the El Paso Police Department's Gang Unit located Evans' vehicle, identified him as the driver and took him into custody.

The affidavit states that several witnesses identified Evans in a photo lineup as the man in the red track suit who stabbed Graham.

Evans, of the 14300 block of Arthur Ashe Court in the Pebble Hills High School area, is being held on a $500,000 bond at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown.

Ex-soldier killed in shooting

The stabbing was the first of two recent acts of bloodshed in the Cincinnati nightlife district.

On Monday at about 2 a.m. bar closing time, Darion Marquez Williams was killed in a shooting on Stanton Street following a fight in the Chino Chido bar earlier that Super Bowl Sunday night, police said. No arrests have been announced.

Williams, 26, planned to go into business after recently completing his service in the U.S. Army and having been stationed at Fort Bliss, according to a GoFundMe page and a Fort Bliss spokesperson.

Williams was described as an excellent son, brother, nephew and grandson on the GoFundMe page, which is collecting money for funeral expenses.

"Darion aka 'Quez' was a fun loving loyal young man who was taken from us WAY too soon," the fundraising page states.
