SXSW canceled: Now you can stream some of the pilots for free on Vimeo
In the wake of the canceled 2020 SXSW Film Festival, a group of filmmakers from the fest’s Episodic Pilot Competition are launching a “SXSW 2020 Pilot Showcase” on the streaming service Vimeo. The event, which is free to viewers to stream, focuses on diversity led pilots (more than half the content comes from LGBT creators). For many of these filmmakers, SXSW would have been their largest platform yet to show their work.
“We saw a need to pivot on the cancellation of SXSW and open up conversations with online platforms about how to now connect with an audience — at a time when connection feels more important than ever,” Coral Amiga and Nicole Hartley, co-creators of the pilot “Bored,“ said in an announcement about the series.
The showcase starts April 14, and pilots are expected to remain available for about a month. Stream them here.
The line-up introduces six online premieres: the comedies “Bored,” “Cooper’s Bar,” “The Dream” and “This Isn’t Me,” and two documentaries, “Bananas” and “Homecoming: The Journey of Cardboard.”
