Amazon has begun the process of hiring about 500 production workers for its newly constructed distribution center in far East El Paso County, company officials announced Tuesday.

The full-time jobs are entry-level positions for workers who will process online orders at the new, mammoth fulfillment center.

They "will work alongside Amazon robotics to pick, pack and ship small items to customers, such as books, electronics and toys," Daniel Martin, an Amazon spokesman said in an email.

The newly constructed Amazon distribution center, as seen in October 2021, near Interstate 10 and Eastlake Drive in East El Paso County. It brought about 700 jobs to El Paso.

The facility is scheduled to open in late November, he said. It's located at 12101 Emerald Pass Ave., near the intersection of Eastlake Boulevard and Rojas Drive.

The company already has hired about 200 people in management, technology and support positions.

The entry-level jobs start at $15 to $17.90 per hour, depending on shift times, and include health insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, a college tuition program and other fringe benefits.

"We're seeing a steady volume of applicants," Martin said.

Applicants, who must be at least 18 years old, must apply online for the jobs to be able to schedule in-person interviews, which are filling up fast, Martin said. Jobs were posted Monday, but new job postings with new appointment times are usually posted each Friday, he said.

Interviews will be held at Workforce Solutions Boderplex’s employment center at 8825 North Loop Drive. People without computer or Internet access can use the center's computers to apply, he said.
