Green Corn Project's fall fundraiser set for Oct. 27 at Boggy Creek Farm
It's the season for fall tasting events, but few have been going on as long as the Green Corn Project's annual fall festival.
Green Corn Project started in 1999, when founders Shannon Kemp and Dayna Conner started a nonprofit with the aim of building organic gardens that could both educate and provide food assistance to all kinds of Central Texans. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, Green Corn has installed more than 200 gardens around Austin, at elementary schools, community centers and private residences, including at more than 25 Habitat for Humanity homes.
To raise money to build those vegetable gardens, the organization hosts an annual fundraiser, now in its 21st year, called the “Grow Locally Cook Globally” Fall Festival, where more than a dozen local restaurants bring their small bites for guests to enjoy under the pecan trees of Boggy Creek Farm, 3414 Lyons Road.
This year, farmer Carol Ann Sayle will be leading tours of her historic circa-1830s farmhouse while attendees sample from more than 20 restaurants, including ASTI Trattoria, Pitchfork Pretty, Sala & Betty, Suerte, The Backspace, Cafe Josie, Contigo Austin, Eden East Austin, Foreign & Domestic, Hideaway Kitchen & Bar and Hoover's Cooking. Guests can also enjoy drinks from Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Dripping Springs Distilling, Texas Keeper Cider and Buddha's Brew Kombucha. This year's event will feature music from local fiddlers, McNeil High School's Luna Quartet and the Hot Texas Swing Band.
The family-friendly event starts at noon on Sunday, Oct. 27, and tickets cost $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. You can find out more and buy tickets at greencornproject.org.
