Franklin Barbecue hosting first-ever, women-focused grilling event in September
It's an old trope in food that men love to grill and women would rather not, but many women still don't feel as confident at the grill as they want to be.
That's why the Austin chapter of Les Dames D'Escoffier is hosting a grilling fundraiser in September that is both a tasting event and an educational experience.
You Grill, Girl will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Franklin Barbecue, and it will feature local chefs including "Any Night Grilling" author Paula Disbrowe, Amanda Turner of Jester King, Janie Ramirez of Dai Due, Laura Sawicki of Launderette, Trish Fortuna of Poke-Poke, Sarah McIntosh of Epicerie, Austin Meat Collective's Julia Poplawsky, Abby Love of L’Oven Bread & Community and Megan Nesland, Sarah Petmecky and Cory McNease of Franklin Barbecue.
Attendees can enjoy smoked and grilled dishes from the participating chefs while also watching demonstrations about starting a fire and grilling over live fire. "Les Dames de Escoffier is excited to host, ‘You Grill Girl’, a celebration bringing together Austin's top female chefs for a night of outdoor grilling,” said Stacy Franklin, activities chairwoman of Les Dames de Escoffier of Austin. "This event will not only be a great time, but also one that feels good to be a part of as is it raises money for scholarships and grants for females in the culinary industry within our community."
The event, which includes a live auction that will include a Franklin Barbecue pit, will raise money for Les Dames' culinary scholarships. Tickets cost $75 each ($95 for VIP) and are available at yougrillgirl.eventbrite.com.
