Austin springtime crawfish boils have arrived
It's crawfish season y'all. Are you the type to go all out at the communal table, or do you prefer your crawfish in an actual dish and not ceremoniously dumped onto some newspaper? Whichever camp you fall in, you can find crawfish across Austin.
If you've been ready for crawfish season to hit for months, Little Woodrow's has a boil on Feb. 24 starting at 2 p.m. with specials on Shiner drafts all day.
Latchkey is commemorating Texas Independence Day with crawfish for $10 per pound, $2 Lonestars and music. That same day, Black Sheep Lodge starts its boil at 2 p.m., pricing crawfish $9-$12 per scoop, along with $3 "White Trash Can Beers" (Lone Star, Lone Star Light, Coors, PBR) and $1 Jell-O shots.
Whisler's is celebrating Fat Tuesday (March 5) with crawfish, king cake and a brass band as well as a Bourbon Street-themed cocktail menu. Scholz Garten will also have crawfish on Fat Tuesday along with Abita Beer and Cajun food specials.
If you're looking to go big, the Austin Crawfish Festival is two days full of mudbugs from March 8-9. VIP tickets include all the crawfish you can eat.
You can find 1,400 pounds of crawfish at Haymaker on March 9, also priced per scoop and with drink specials (including Jell-O shots).
What goes better with crawfish than live Texas music? The Lonestar Crawfish Festival takes place April 13 at Stubb's, featuring performances from Jackopierce and Pat Green. All-you-can-eat crawfish tickets are still available.
Bling Pig Pub has three crawfish boils planned for March 5, March 10 and April 7 with live music, drink specials and games. Shoal Creek Saloon will also have a daily boil schedule throughout the season, meaning you can get crawfish any time there based on availability. It's also hosting a Feb. 28 Texas beer and crawfish boil with free Texas Beer Co. pint glasses.
You can get crawfish etouffee and places like Sawyer & Co., Evangeline Cafe and food truck Baton Creole. Big Easy Bar and Grill has crawfish prominently on the menu, including crawfish cakes. Turf N' Surf Po Boy in the Lavaca Street Bar has crawfish po'boys and plates. You can get boiled crawfish priced by the pound at both locations of the Crawfish Shack & Oyster Bar if you're hoping to recreate the crawfish boil experience on your own time.
If you find yourself down in Houston, H-E-B recently opened the True Texas Boil House at its store on 10100 Beechnut St., with crawfish priced at $6.97 per pound.
