Check out this 1960s Dr Pepper cookbook
Crack open a cold Dr Pepper and dump it into some shrimp dip in honor of this weird and fascinating vintage cookbook.
Deep in the depths of the internet exists the 1965 cookbook featuring 12 pages of Dr Pepper-focused recipes for all occasions. A 2010 post from a blog called “And Everything Else Too” by Stephen Banes introduces the fascinating world of cooking with soda, including scans from a cookbook called “Cookin’ with Dr Pepper.”
The book promises that the addition of Dr Pepper to these recipes will bring a "distinctly different touch to every menu it graces." I'm sure it will be different.
Highlights from this piece of culinary history include an avocado dip made with cream cheese and a fourth cup of Dr Pepper, "bean dip a la Dr Pepper," marinated roast, and a low-calorie molded melon salad made with strawberry gelatin, Diet Dr Pepper, cubed cantaloupe, chopped celery and garnished with “crisp salad greens” (I’m gagging).
It’s not all horrifying though. I’d be open to sampling some pecans glazed with Dr Pepper, and the apple muffins sound pretty good.
