Esquire magazine names three Texas restaurants on list of country's best new dining options

Austin fails to nab a spot

There are some hot new restaurants in Texas. Esquire magazine has released its annual list of Best New Restaurants in America and three of the 20 are located in the Lone Star State. However, none of them are in Austin. Nancy's Hustle, Houston's modern American spot in East Downtown, landed the #3 spot to take top Texas honors. Alejandro Paredes' singularly focused Carnitas Lonjas (which landed on my list of best tacos in San Antonio earlier this year) comes in at #10, while the imaginative Petra and the Beast in Dallas took the #13 slot. This is not the first national press for Carnitas Lonjas, which also landed on Eater's list of the 18 Best New Restaurants in America this summer.

The well-informed list has a heavy focus on New York and California, with half of the restaurants coming from those two states, and hopscotches across the country, with restaurants in Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts and more.
