The most popular poke shop in Dallas is moving to the heart of Austin. Yes, you probably don’t think of seafood when you think of Big D, but Malibu Poke from restaurateur Jon Alexis (TJ’s Seafood Market & Grill) has made a name for itself in the Metroplex thanks to its inventive ingredients, fresh flavors, non-traditional bowls and convenience.

Alexis will open Malibu Poke at 211 Walter Seaholm Dr. in the Seaholm District on November 15 with a menu created in collaboration with James Beard nominee Matt McAllister of FT33. The bowls include sushi-grade rice and sashimi along with chef-driven ingredients like smoked bonito aioli, coconut curry, Japanese sancho pepper, red miso, daikon, umami powder, marinated shitake mushrooms and more. Guests can either create their own or order one of the signature bowls, and Malibu Poke will also serve local beers, sake, kombucha, wine, low -sugar cocktails and more.

The business model also features a futuristic self-service kiosk that include facial-recognition software that “remembers” returning guests’ orders. Malibu Poke will be located a couple of doors down from Trader Joe’s, across from Merit Coffee.
