3 Austin burgers are among the 'best burgers in America'
In a town of tacos and barbecue, you can’t look past an Austin classic: Really good burgers.
The site started with a list of 300 burgers across the country and dived into reviews and other “best-of” lists. The 101 burgers on the final list required “must-haves,” including “high-quality beef,” “proper seasoning, well-proportioned components, and an overall attention to detail.” A panel of food writers then voted for their favorites.
Coming in at No. 92 on the list, Second Bar + Kitchen’s Congress Burger stands out for its toppings of local ingredients and a blended patty of ground brisket and chuck. The “really fun part” includes the options for “avocado, crisp pork belly, an over-easy egg, and/or seared foie gras.”
Hopdoddy Burger Bar’s Classic Burger secured the No. 49 spot on the ranking. The site highlights the chain’s hormone and antibiotic-free beef, scratch-made buns and fresh veggies. The Classic comes with traditional toppings, bacon and a “combination of horseradish, mustard, and mayonnaise” dubbed “sassy sauce.”
Just ahead of Hopdoddy at No. 48 is the classic downtown burger joint Hut’s Hamburgers. The Daily Meal gives special attention to the restaurant’s burger options, including “grass-fed longhorn beef, boneless chicken, or vegan-friendly form” and the burgers named after pop culture personalities. The star of the show is Hut’s Favorite, a classic burger featuring lettuce, tomato, cheese, mayo and bacon.
Don’t just take The Daily Meal's word for it: In 2015, American-Statesman restaurant critic Matthew Odam named the Congress Burger one of his hamburger all-stars.
