Torchy’s Tacos truck heads to that big trailer park in the sky

The Torchy's trailer on South First Street has been closed since March. It was in the process of being hauled away on Tuesday. Sharon Chapman/American-Statesman

We would like to join this devil of a caravan.

Torchy’s Tacos closed its flagship trailer park location with a tacos and queso party in March, and the trailer has since provided a canvas for taggers.

As restaurant writer Matthew Odam reported, the spot at 1311 S. First St. was the second home for the iconic trailer, after some time just north on the same street.

We happened upon the next chapter in the trailer park story while picking up lunch Tuesday (shoutout to Conscious Cravings, which remains open in the park): A Torchy’s employee was there with a big (but not their biggest) truck, hooking up the trailer to take it to the great beyond ... aka Torchy’s corporate headquarters.

You can still get your Torchy’s tacos (trashy, please) at one of the Austin chain’s many locations, of course.

We are sad that the big truck is “not for hire,” as clearly noted in red letters on the side. It seems like a fun vehicle for a summer afternoon joy ride.

And, yes, we would follow for Nookie.
