El Chile now open for business on South First Street

Matthew Odam

El Chile returned to South Austin over the weekend and is now open for business at 1816 S. 1st St.

After SoFi’s shuttered before it even got a chance to open, Carlos Rivero stepped in to commandeer the space. The building is now adorned in the bright aqua color familiar to El Chile regulars. The Tex-Mex-meets-interior restaurant will serve menu items from the original location on Manor Road, as well as new menu items like costilla adobada and duck confit with mole poblano and brunch dishes like omelette de jaiba suiza and huevos divorciados.

El Chile is the second Rivero-owned restaurant south of the river. He also owns El Alma on Barton Springs Road. The original El Chile location on Manor Road, which opened 10 years ago, closed Thursday and will be replaced with a to-be-determined concept from Rivero, who also owns El Chilito and Flat Top Burger Shop on the same street.
