Austin will soon be home to the first Shake Shack in Texas. The burger restaurant owned by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) in New York City will be located in the Lamar Union mixed-use development that will also be home to renovated Drafthouse South Lamar (1120 S. Lamar Blvd.).

Meyer opened the first Shake Shack in Madison Square Park in 2004, serving all-natural hamburgers, griddled hot dogs and custard. The brand has since expanded to Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, the District of Columbia, Connecticut as well as several international locations and recently announced plans to open in Las Vegas.

Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group has made a name for itself for excellent customer service and community involvement. The restaurant group also includes New York City restaurants Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern and Blue Smoke.

“We’re thrilled to plant our feet in the great state of Texas,” said Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO. “Austin embraces all of the important things in life—food, music, community and culture—we’re excited to be on South Lamar that puts us in the heart of it all.”

Shake Shack is expected to open in Austin in late 2014. The Lamar Union will also be home to Cantine, a new Italian restaurant from Fino and Asti owners Lisa and Emmett Fox.
