The Omelettry moving from Burnet Road, but destination is not clear

Matthew Odam

After 36 years in business at 4811 Burnet Rd., the Omelettry is eying a move. The restaurant’s current lease ends in June 2015.

Kenny Carpenter founded the restaurant in 1978, and his son and co-owner, Jesse, says their landlords were not willing to extend the lease. The younger Carpenter says they are currently looking at locations in the Burnet Road/Anderson Lane area, as well as on North Lamar Boulevard and a spot on Airport Boulevard. The Carpenters hope to keep the restaurant within a couple of miles of its current location.

Jesse Carpenter says they have tried unsuccessfully to buy the building several times over the years, but the Carpenters hold no ill will toward their landlords.

“We’re heartbroken about having to leave,” Jesse Carpenter said. “It’s just the way Austin’s real estate has boomed in recent years, it has priced us out of our own location. I can’t blame them for wanting to sell for more than we can pay for it.”

Jesse Carpenter says the Omelettry will jump on a deal if one presents itself, but they are also prepared to stay in their current space until their lease ends.
