Maria’s Taco Xpress will hold an event Saturday to raise money for one of its young employees. Twenty-one year-old Vicente Predroza is battling very advanced leukemia, so the South Austin taco stalwarts are teaming with non-profit organization Be the Match to administer swab tests to volunteers in the community in hopes of finding a match for bone marrow donation.
The event at Maria’s Taco Xpress (2529 S. Lamar Blvd.) will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and anyone participating will receive a free taco. Be the Match says that finding a match for marrow donor depends greatly on ethnicity, so they are hoping to receive a large number of Hispanic participants.
