SXSW Eats: SouthBites food trailer park is back with new lineup

Addie Broyles

Last year, South by Southwest launched SouthBites, a pop-up food trailer park near the Austin Convention Center that was its first attempt to capture some of the energy of (and attention given to) our city’s food trailer scene.

Starting on March 7, SouthBites will return to 604 Driskill St., the southeast corner of Cesar Chavez and Red River streets, where 10 trucks from Austin and beyond will be serving both SXSW participants and the general public from 11 a.m. to midnight through March 15.

The featured trailers this year are: Ms. P’s Electric Cock, Micklethwait Craft Meats, Garbo’s Lobster Truck, East Side King, Chi’Lantro BBQ, Burro Cheese Kitchen and Be More Pacific from Austin; The Waffle Bus from Houston; Fort Worth’s Holy Kombucha; and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams from the famed Ohio ice creamery.

Like last year, Paul Qui and Deana Saukam of East Side King and Qui helped curate the lineup.

Each of the trailers will be selling their dishes straight from their trucks. There is no fee for entry, and it’s located just across Cesar Chavez from the convention center.
