Shake Shack to give away burgers from food truck during SXSW

Matthew Odam

New York City-based Shake Shack will operate a pop-up food truck during South by Southwest, offering Austin a free taste of what it has in store for later this year when the popular hamburger restaurant opens its location at the Lamar Union development.

Danny Meyers’ burger joint will team with fellow New Yorkers over at NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” for the truck that will serve complimentary burger, fries and bottled water March 8-14 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The truck will sit at the intersection of Sixth and Red River streets March 8-10 and move to 907 E. 6th St. (between Brushy and San Marcos streets) March 11-14.

Seth Meyers will be at SXSW to participate in the “Inside Late Night with Seth Meyers” on March 8. Meyers and his team will also participate in several promotional activities to advance his new show. In addition to the Shack Shack partnership, “Late Night” will team with SXSW’s official bike share program, SX Cycles, and will provide free bicycles for attendees March 7-15 from 10 a.m.-midnight. The bike rental location (Cesar Chavez and Red River) will air episodes of “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The new late night program will also sponsor the opening party for SXSW Comedy on March at Buffalo Billiards.

Shake Shack also announced today that it will open a second Austin location at the Domain in 2015.
