You’ve likely never experienced a cakewalk like the one going down Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Belmont (305 W. 6th St.). Uchi director of culinary operations Philip Speer and other local bakers, including chefs from Uchi, Odd Duck and Amity Bakery, are donating cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other baked sweets for a cakewalk to benefit Jasmine Johnson, a local chalkboard artist who is unable to work due to a back injury. Johnson’s work can be found at Uchi, WeatherUp and other spots around town.

The event, which will feature live music from Holiday Mountain, Silver Foxes and Bob Appel, will raise money for Johnson’s medical bills. There will also be a cash bar (with $1 from each drink going to the medical bill fund) and a silent auction of Johnson’s works.

There is a $10 suggested donation for the event and a $5 suggested donation to participate in the cakewalk. More information here.

“I am so grateful to the people of the Austin restaurant and music scene for coming together to put on this benefit for me and my back,” Johnson said. “I feel so humbled and honored to be a part of such a generous community.”
