Fox News names Austin restaurant one of nation’s best ‘taco stands’

Fox News may want to polish up on their vocabulary. In yet another wide-ranging national listicle, the news outlet named Austin’s La Condesa one of the best “taco stands” in the country. While I love their arábicos and puerco al pastor tacos, calling the handsome space in the heart of the 2nd Street District a “taco stand” is a pretty dense move. Then again, Fox says the list belongs to Gayot.com (though they don’t provide a link to Gayot’s original story), so it appears Fox is only responsible for the wrong-headed headline.

At least the description is fairly accurate: “La Condesa in Austin features a well-thought-out mix of Mexican street food and jet-setting sophistication.”

Also making the list is San Francisco’s La Taqueria. I visited there a few weeks ago, and while the place has personality, I left confounded as to why people love it. San Francisco wowed me with a bunch of its food, but not its Mexican food.
