The fourth annual Pay it Forward with Daniel Curtis event takes place at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on August 7. The evening will feature food from some of Austin’s best chefs, including David Bull (Congress), Bryce Gilmore (Barley Swine), Mat Clouser (Swift’s Attic), and Shawn Cirkiel (Parkside), with proceeds benefitting the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation. The Tipsy Texan’s David Alan will provide craft cocktails and 80s new wave goofs the Spazmatics will provide the tunes.

The benefit started in 2011 to help raise funds for service industry veteran Curtis, who suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident. Following that inaugural event, Curtis and the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation have teamed each year to raise money to fund education about spinal cord injury and provide medical assistance for those in need, last year taking in approximately $72,000.

“In the three years since I became a quadriplegic and nearly lost my life, I’ve gone from being utterly broken to finding a new sense of what it means to be whole,” Curtis said. “Recovery from traumatic injury like this is a journey that can only be successful with the help of many. I’ve been in Austin my entire life and it’s an amazing city, but it’s only over the past few years that I have come to understand how fortunate I am to be part of such an incredible community. The best way I can express my gratitude for all the care and support that I’ve received is to help other cord injury survivors simplify the otherwise arduous journey from incomprehensible trauma to eventual triumph.”

Tickets are $75 for general admission and $125 for VIP, which includes early entry and a chance to mingle with the participating chefs. More information and tickets at payitforwardwithdaniel.org.
