Chefs Michael Fojtasek and Grae Nonas bring refined Southern comfort food to Central Austin Tuesday when they open Olamaie at 1610 San Antonio St. in the Judges Hill neighborhood.

Nonas previously served as sous chef at the excellent South Austin restaurant Lenoir and co-executive chef Fojtasek has worked in Manhattan at Lincoln Ristorante. The two served as co-sous-chefs at seafood-centric Son of a Gun in Los Angeles

Olamaie will serve dinner Tuesday-Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m. Olamaie will feature a rotating seasonal menu, sourcing from local purveyors like Boggy Creek and Springdale Farm, as well as local ranchers. The wine and beer selections will all be American, playing off the theme of the food menu.

The chefs haven’t released an initial menu, but pictures of dishes like field peas with goat cheese, and crab salad have popped up on social media the past two days following dinners for friends, family and media, and I’ve heard tell of smoky hen of the woods mushrooms, roasted tilefish and underblade steak.

Reservations, which are recommended, can be made by emailing reservations@olamaieaustin.com.
