Events: Lenoir hosts wine dinner spotlighting California wines

Lenoir hosts a five-course dinner Saturday at 7:30 p.m. that will serve as an exploration of the relationship between European and California wines. Four Seasons sommelier Mark Sayre has curated the roster of wines that will show how Old World wines have influenced newer producers out West. Each of the five courses will be paired with two different wines – one old, one new.

“We are in the midst of a revolution in California wine—what defines it, what style, what grape varieties, bucking trends,” Sayre said. “Long have Cabernet and Chardonnay (and yes, Pinot Noir) dominated, and still reign supreme, but we are seeing a shift with a community of new winemakers that are throwing out all the old rules. This wave of ‘nouveau Cali’ is exciting—new winemakers pushing the boundaries of style and grape varieties—harking back to older methods, making wines that are uber-focused and food-friendly. But despite that these wines are tasty and fun on their own merit, only part of the story is told when we taste them. How do we know that they are great? Just like an inspired piece of new music, it is rooted in the classics. What better way to enjoy these game-changing wines than to taste them alongside their old world influence? Experience the new by appreciating where they came from.”

Tickets for the dinner, which will take place in the private dining room at the Duplechans’ neighboring Métier, are $150 (plus) tax, and include service. Check out the roster of wines below:
