Openings/closings: Turf N Surf moves into brick-and-mortar space, new ramen restaurant opens in old Le Soleil location, Zed’s closes
Open: East 12th Kafe, a restaurant at 4140 E. 12th St. serving Southern and Cajun favorites including fried fish, grilled pork chops, meatloaf and sides such as macaroni and cheese and candied yams. 926-4140, facebook.com/East12thKafe
Open: Nancy’s Sky Garden, a restaurant at 501 S. Austin St. in Georgetown from the owners of Koriente in downtown Austin. The restaurant is on the fourth floor of the building, in the space that most recently housed the now-closed Koi Asian Bistro. 554-2060, no website
Closed: Zed’s, the restaurant at 501 Canyon Ridge in North Austin. Though the website says the restaurant is closed only temporarily, both the Twitter and Facebook pages have been deactivated.
UPCOMING FOOD & WINE EVENTS
• Rodeo Austin, the two-week fair and rodeo out at the Travis County Expo Center, doesn’t officially start until March 8, but two events this week will kick off the fun. The rodeo’s annual cowboy breakfast starts at 6 a.m. Friday at Auditorium Shores, followed by the BBQ Auction and Dance at 6 p.m. Saturday at Austin Music Hall. The Friday event lasts until 9 a.m. and is free and open to the public. The Saturday event will feature Asleep at the Wheel and a barbecue dinner, and tickets cost $35 (or $500 a table) at RodeoAustin.com.
• AIDS Services of Austin is hosting its 20th annual Viva Las Vegas fundraiser for the nonprofit’s legal services program at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Shoal Crossing Event Center, 8611 N. MoPac (Loop 1). Bands including The Copa Kings, Coty Ross, Mouthfeel and Agustin Tash will perform, and food from local restaurants will be served. Tickets cost $75 online at asaustin.org/viva or $90 at the door.
