The Science Mill has many outdoor exhibits including the Colossal Robotic Hand exhibit.

The Science Mill museum in Johnson City is gearing up for winter break from school, be it in-person or virtual. This December it will be open Dec. 17-31 (but closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

Previously, the museum has only been opened Thursdays through Sundays. During winter break it will be open noon to 4 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The good thing about the Science Mill is many of the exhibits are outside including the fossil dig, giant reflectors, an African spurred tortoise, a colossal robotic hand, the giant lever, and the incredible ball machine. There's also a new labyrinth and butterfly garden.

If you're comfortable being inside (wearing your mask and sanitizing at all times), the museum has an updated banana piano exhibit and MindBall, which uses your brainwaves is work. Kids also can make and race their own sleighs this holiday season.
