Service Dogs Inc. looking for new site for its dogs to deliver Valentine's Cards to kids
Update: Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas "has decided to not allow Service Dogs into the facility," wrote Dorey Petty, director of development at Service Dogs Inc., which rescues dogs and trains them to be service animals. Service Dogs Inc. is looking for another site where its dogs can deliver Valentine's cards to kids on Thursday.
Valentine's Day can be really tough when you're in the hospital. All your friends back at school are opening up their cards and enjoying the class party, and you are not.
This year, the kids at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas will get Valentine's Day cards delivered to them by dogs from Service Dogs Inc., which takes dogs from shelters and trains them to be service animals for people with mobility or hearing disabilities.
You can help them create the cards or fund this service. If you want to make cards, come on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. to the Dripping Springs Training Center, 4925 Bell Springs Road. Or you can donate towards the costs of cards and delivery at https://www.classy.org/campaign/valentines-from-service-dogs/c222908.
It takes about $50,000 to train each dog and the dogs are given to people with disabilities at no cost to them.
