Fit Folks: Lee Simmons

Pam LeBlanc
Lee Simmons

Lee Simmons, 39

I run to stay fit. Running has helped me stay balanced physically and mentally. On the best day of my life, I ran with my dad on a beach. On the worst day of my life, I laced up and pounded out my soul on the streets of Barton Hills. It’s meditative and empowering. I like to think that I run marathons to remind myself that all of the other challenges in my life suddenly seem completely within grasp and even surmountable. And running has become so much more than just my needs: For the last five years I’ve run to raise money for Colin’s Hope, the local nonprofit dedicated to spreading water safety awareness. I look forward to taking that message to the Boston Marathon in 2015!
