Run, and fun, downtown

Capitol 10,000.If you head downtown Sunday, you might just see an armadillo running. Do not be alarmed.

The Austin American-Statesman's annual 10K is the largest in Texas and fifth-largest in the country. Costumes, such as the armadillo, are encouraged (there's a contest), but serious runners will have their 'feet on the street,' too, as we like to say. This year's race benefits Meals on Wheels and More (www.mealsonwheelsandmore.org ), and it should be a fun time with bands and a festive spirit.

Online registration has closed. You can still register from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Crockett Center, 10601 N. Lamar Blvd. (these are also packet pickup times). It's $30 for the Fun Run and Walk and $33 for the timed run.

On race day, people can register ($40) for the Fun Run and Walk only.
