Fit Folks: Shepherd Green, 69

I have been exercising seriously for 50 years. It has kept me mentally alert, and when I am injured I heal rapidly. It also helps my self-esteem.

My prescription when I am feeling sluggish is to exercise, and I feel much better afterward. I recommend exercise as a way of life that allows us seniors to maintain a better quality of life and good health.

My program consists of weight training three times weekly. I use machines, free weights, resistance bands, rubber tubing and kettle bells. In order to enhance your program, you must have variety. The more tools you use, the more excited you will be about your workout — and so will your muscles.

We're looking for Central Texans who keep fit with interesting activities. Tell us — in 100 words or fewer — about yours. If you have a photograph, include that as well. Send your name, age and contact information to Pam LeBlanc, Austin American-Statesman, 305 S. Congress Ave., Austin TX 78704 or e-mail it to pleblanc@statesman.com.
