I teach math at Lockhart High School. I began running in Minnesota in 1972. Highlights include winning the 1982 Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska; competing in the 1982 Moscow Marathon on the 1980 Olympics course; and completing the 100th Boston Marathon in 1996. In 1984, after completing Grandma's Marathon, my wife Marjaana and I were married on the outside deck of Grandma's Saloon & Deli overlooking Duluth Harbor. However, my chronic Achilles injury made running difficult. In 2011, I bought a road bike and have ridden 12,000 miles up to 200 miles per week. My weight dropped from 205 pounds to 180 pounds. I feel like an athlete again.
