Fit Folks: Corbin Casteel, 37

Staff Writer
Austin 360

Being born and raised in Austin, I grew up seeing folks running at Town Lake. But it wasn't until my mid-20s that I joined them.

The first few weeks, I couldn't complete the three-mile loop from MoPac to Lamar Boulevard without almost passing out. Then one day, I did it. That day has kept me coming back for more. It also spawned an interest in swimming, an occasional day on the mountain bike and just about anything outdoors. This August, I will celebrate my 10-year anniversary of my commitment to fitness.

Life throws all sorts of things at you. Whether you're having the best day of your life or just need to shed a heavy load, the endorphins your body rewards you with during and after a great run or an invigorating swim are a gift from God. Your body begins to crave the natural high, and if it doesn't get it, it lets you know about it.

As the father of two young children, I hope to be an example to them to learn the value of staying healthy and fit. I'm looking forward to running with them on the trail one day very soon — without the Double Bob stroller!

We're looking for Central Texans who keep fit with interesting activities. Tell us — in 100 words or fewer — about yours. If you have a photograph, include that as well. Send your name, age and contact information to Pam LeBlanc, Austin American-Statesman, 305 S. Congress Ave., Austin TX 78704 or email it to pleblanc@statesman.com.
