Fit Folks: Bill C. Powell, 83
I play golf to stay fit and have been a member of Georgetown Country Club for 33 years. When I retired from the Army in 1978, there were no golf courses where I lived in Round Rock. I realized when they began to expand Interstate 35 that traveling to Bergstrom Air Force Base was no option, so I found that Georgetown was the best solution. I play almost every day. When the Forest Creek course opened in Round Rock, I was asked to determine how they could shorten the length of play from five-and-a-half to four-and-a-half hours. I couldn't find anything in writing, so I devised a system and hired several marshals. It must have worked, since it was named the best of 252 golf courses in 1990. I love playing golf and will continue to play as long as I can negotiate the course. I am sure it keeps me fit.
