Fit Folks: Eric Ohlson, 49

Staff Writer
Austin 360

After cervical disc fusion seven years ago, my surgeon recommended I give up high-impact sports and take up swimming or hiking. I began hiking the trails around my neighborhood and the Barton Creek greenbelt. Along with my wife and two kids we have hiked in the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, the Black Hills, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and this year we hiked in Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite national parks. I just spent my 49th birthday hiking rim to rim in the Grand Canyon with my friend Roy Pollack. That last few miles up and out of the canyon were a test for these 49-year-old knees!

We're looking for Central Texans who keep fit with interesting activities. Tell us — in 100 words or fewer — about yours. If you have a photograph, include that as well.
