FIT FOLKS: David Bieser
Looking down at the scale and seeing a number over 200 at age 59, I knew I needed a change. I started out riding a mountain bike and then switched to a road bike. I set a goal and told everyone that I was going to do the MS 150, a two-day bike ride from Houston to Austin. By making myself accountable to others (and myself), I completed it with ease. I added rowing on Lady Bird Lake two years ago. Then I set more goals. Last year, on my 65th birthday, I rowed 6.5 miles and did a 65-mile bike ride. This year I completed 660 miles on my bike and 66 miles of rowing during the month of June. Then I set a goal of riding the Hotter 'N Hell 100 in Wichita Falls in less than 6 hours. I made it, with a time of 5 hours and 29 minutes. I've lost 55 pounds. Set a goal. Share that goal. Achieve the goal.
