THE OUTSIDERS: Robert Underwood

I love to exercise and have been doing so continuously for more than 37 years, usually taking off no more than three days a month. Different workouts have included weight training, running, swimming, martial arts, cycling and yoga. Lately, my wife Deborah and I have been preparing for an upcoming hiking trip to the Grand Canyon at the nature trail in the River Place subdivision. The hiking is very arduous over portions of the trail's seven miles. For the sake of conditioning, we often hike during the heat of the day, but most of the trail is comfortably shaded. It is an incredible aerobic workout in a beautifully wooded environment.

We're looking for Central Texans who love the outdoors. Tell us — in 100 words or fewer — what your favorite outdoor place is and what you do there. If you have a photograph, include that as well. Send your name, age and contact information to Kathy Blackwell, Austin American-Statesman, 305 S. Congress Ave., Austin, TX 78704, or email it to kblackwell@statesman.com.
