Thousands of people are expected to converge at CrossCreek Cycle Park in Paige, outside Bastrop, on Oct. 8-9 for the next Tough Mudder, an "obstacle course on steroids dreamed up by a 30-year-old Brit who worked in counterterrorism," writes Pam LeBlanc. Modeled after a rigorous miltary test, the race consists of a 10-12 mile trail run with almost two dozen military-style obstacles (think oiled-up monkey bars and a 10,000-volt charged gauntlet). Longhorn Mudders can watch the Texas-Oklahoma game on a jumbo screen. Registration for the Saturday race is $180; $160 for Sunday. Just want to watch? Spectator fees are $15 through Oct. 7, $40 walk-up. Helps benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The Mudder takes place 9 a.m. to noon both days. See www.toughmudder.com .
