Fit Folks: Meridith Blank Taylor, 38
As a small business owner and mother, one of my favorite parts of my day is rising at 5:30 a.m. to either run or swim. I run with my first child, a 12-year-old golden retriever mix that I found. My neighborhood pool is at the top of a hill. Each breath I take, I enjoy the gradual rising of the magnificent sun.
All of this exercise is helpful for me in the evenings, when I put on my ice hockey gear and play winger for the Warlocks. The ice rink is the perfect place to be on a hot Austin day. Plus, you will never have more fun doing 39 minutes of wind sprints. You must give 110 percent or your teammates will rightfully yell at you to get off the ice.
During a hockey game, there is no time to think or worry about your life. We all wear pads and helmets. No matter your success, wealth, looks or intelligence, you have one job — get the puck in the net!
We're looking for Central Texans who keep fit with interesting activities. Tell us — in 100 words or fewer — about yours. If you have a photograph, include that as well. Send your name, age and contact information to Pam LeBlanc, Austin American-Statesman, 305 S. Congress Ave., Austin TX 78704 or e-mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
