Fit Folks: Peter Dolan
I have been a runner forever. I started as a way to get my dog some exercise; that was four dogs ago. I love the social aspect of a runner's group as well as traveling to marathons. Two years ago, my blood sugar went to pre-diabetes range, so I started cycling as an add-on to the running. I switched to whole wheat pastas and cut down on the bread. Now I ride my bike to work three times a week. My blood sugar is normal, my body fat is low and my bone density continues to be high for an old guy. I just participated in a University of Texas health study and my VO2 max measured 61.3, which they tell me is in the 99th percentile for my age. The real glory these days is bringing others into the fold. At work we now have a group of 20 people who run at lunch. Many of them are new to the sport and some are now marathoners. Two in the group have lost 60 pounds in the past year!
