A letter sent to South by Southwest’s officially registered badgeholders Friday evening notified them that “2020 registrants can opt to defer their registration to 2021, 2022, or 2023” in the wake of Friday’s cancellation of this year’s event after the city of Austin’s local disaster declaration related to coronavirus concerns.

The letter made no mention of possible refunds for registrants. For those interested in rescheduling to a future year, the letter added: “We will be in touch soon with a system for deferral and FAQ.”

SXSW has not released a total number of registrants for 2020. They reported 86,643 conference attendees in 2019, but it’s unclear how many were paid registrants.
