SXSW: A retro roller skating rink in a parking lot? Sure, why not
Start your week right, with another weird thing coming for South by Southwest this year. Today's offering: a big ol' roller skating party in a downtown Austin parking lot.
Vice is building a skating rink in the Carmelo's lot, at the corner of Red River and Fifth streets, according to a news release. Viceland Skateland promises a series of retro roller skating parties, with DJs, pro skaters, the ever-popular Viceland bus, merch and a bar. Programming will include "a celebrations on Biggie Smalls featuring musical tributes from DJs like Bluntler, Trauma, Scram Jones and Whoo Kid" and a happy hour hosted by rapper Phonte.
Skates will be available to rent. Don't worry.
Xanadu, here we come. Find more SXSW activations and parties in our side party guide.
