Red River Cultural District to award another $70,000 to unemployed workers
Back in March, when the coronavirus shut down Austin’s music scene overnight, business leaders in the Red River Cultural District rallied to create the Banding Together ATX emergency relief fund for workers in the service and hospitality industries.
When an initial fundraising push netted $40,000, fund administrators opted to distribute the money via HEB gift cards to maximize the amount of people they could help.
Fundraising efforts continued throughout the year and Banding Together ATX has awarded $155,000 across over 2,000 individual grants to date.
Administrators are accepting applications for the fourth round of funding through Dec. 18. They plan to award $70,000 in HEB gift cards of up to $100.
To qualify, applicants must reside in the Austin area, be unemployed at the time of application and they must have lost employment as a direct result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
People work work in any of the following industries are eligible to apply: music venue, musician, live performance artist, music marketing/photography/content, bar, event production/activation, food and beverage, hotel, hospitality/destination management company.
