Capyac brings its Starcrawler event to Empire on Friday. [JAY JANNER / AMERICAN-STATESMAN]

Here’s what’s happening in the Live Music Capital of the World this week.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: Capyac at Empire. The synth-funk duo recently relocated from Austin to L.A., but they jet back into town to produce one of their elaborate theatrical happenings. This one is called Starcrawler; a news release describes it as “a space discopera of sorts, open to all aliens, space travelers and voyagers across the universe.” The event will take over Empire’s indoor and outdoor stages, and the lineup includes recent Austin360 Artist of the Month Vapor Caves, an excellent boogie-funk duo. Botany, 5-D, Big Bill, Corduroi, Van Mary and Brother Sports will also perform. $15. 7 p.m. doors. 606 E. Seventh St. empireatx.com. — D.S.S.

Friday: Chorizo con Pollo at Sahara Lounge. Two of Austin’s top party-rockers, DJs Chorizo Funk and Chicken George, dig deep into their record collections for a one-off Friday night dance bash designed to set your weekend off right. They promise a well-curated menu of soul, funk, Afrobeat, house, hip-hop and boogie at the funky East Austin dive. $7. 10 p.m. 1413 Webberville Road. saharalounge.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Eric Johnson at Paramount Theatre. With a new album coming Feb. 28, Johnson is previewing some fresh material while also surveying his considerable career in a tour that’s titled “Classics: Present and Past.” His backing band includes two Austin aces: Roscoe Beck, renowned for his work with Leonard Cohen, and guitarist Dave Scher, who plays frequently in Austin’s jazz and songwriter venues when he’s not on the road. $20-$45. 8 p.m. 713 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — P.B.

Saturday: Tomar & the FCs album release at Antone’s. Tomar Williams, lead singer of Austin’s searing soul outfit Tomar & the FCs, describes the group’s new album “Rise Above” as “a call to transcend the current divisiveness in our country around politics, race and so much more.” Reverberating with a classic soul sound, the record is a celebration of love that Williams says he hopes will “provide a few minutes of unity during these turbulent times.” A Stax Records tribute featuring performances by Kevin Russell (Shinyribs), the Watters, Sheree Smith, Soul Man Sam and Courtney Santana opens the show. $15. 9 p.m. doors. 305 E. Fifth St. antonesnightclub.com. — D.S.S.

Wednesday: Dashboard Confessional at Stubb’s outdoor. A flag-bearer for the emo genre — fitting, then, that their early Austin gigs were at Emo’s (in its Red River heyday) — Chris Carrabba’s band was prolific early on, releasing six albums from 2000 to 2009. Then came a long break before 2018’s “Crooked Shadows.” The band had continued to tour in the meantime, though locally their stops were largely at Cedar Park’s H-E-B Center. This time around, they’re back in the Red River district, which seems a better fit for their style and legacy. Piebald opens. $35. 6 p.m. doors. 801 Red River St. stubbsaustin.com. — P.B.

Thursday: Casper Rawls & Friends at Continental Club. Part of why we featured Rawls’ long-running Continental gig as part of our Austin360 Residency of the Month series last summer is that the ace guitarist and tunesmith tends to draw extraordinary local talent for these shows on a regular basis. Even with that high bar, though, this week’s “extra special acoustic songwriter show” is off the charts, with guests Kelly Willis, Michael Fracasso and Betty Soo. All that for no cover? Are you kidding me? Treat the tip jar accordingly. 6:30 p.m. 1315 S. Congress Ave. continentalclub.com. — P.B.
