Joe Ely, Marcia Ball, Kat Edmonson to help honor Ray Benson at Nobelity Project gala
The Nobelity Project’s annual Feed the Peace Awards gala this year will honor Asleep at the Wheel bandleader Ray Benson, with special guests Joe Ely, Marcia Ball and Kat Edmonson scheduled to appear with Benson and his band as part of a dinner and auction event at the Four Seasons Hotel on Feb. 23.
Individual tickets are $500-$1,000, with reservations for 10-seat tables beginning at $5,000, and are available via the organization’s website.
Longtime Austinites Ely and Ball both recently served terms as the official Texas State Musician. Edmonson, who now lives in New York but first garnered attention while playing Austin clubs more than a decade ago, is in town for a Feb. 19 concert at the Paramount Theatre.
Past Feed the Peace honorees have included Willie Nelson (for whom the award is named), Kris Kristofferson, Dan Rather, Delbert McClinton and Jerry Jeff Walker.
Founded in 2005 by Turk and Christy Pipkin, the Nobelity Project is a nonprofit dedicated to “building stronger communities through increasing access to education, improving quality of learning, expanding opportunity and creating connections to the world.” Its international projects have included building schools and libraries in Kenya and supporting education projects in Latin America. Closer to home, its activities have included replanting Bastrop State Park and supporting Austin Independent School District programs for homeless students.
