Here’s what’s happening in the Live Music Capital of the World this week.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: Ulla record release at Saxon Pub. Fans of traditional Irish music got a welcome surprise earlier this year when Irish expats Andrea Magee, Pat Byrne and Stephen Carolan teamed with ace Austin guitarist/producer Rich Brotherton, long an expert in the music of Ireland, for weekly gigs at the Saxon Pub. Those Sunday shows, initially billed as the Irish Invasion, eventually led to the ensemble being dubbed Ulla when they decided to make a six-song record. They’ll celebrate with a rare prime-time weekend gig at their home base. $10. 9 p.m. (Arrive early for Denny Freeman’s free 6 p.m. show, one of the city’s best weekly residencies.) 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. thesaxonpub.com. — P.B.

Saturday: A Charlie Brown Christmas at Stateside at the Paramount. A recent office discussion about great Christmas albums hit an unconquerable peak when pianist Vince Guaraldi’s 1965 classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas” was mentioned. Perhaps it’s because the instrumental approach bypasses any era-specific designation that famous singers give to holiday classics; these piano-centered renditions still feel timeless. The Austin Chamber Music Center, with pianist Michelle Schumann in the Guaraldi role and a supporting cast that includes bassist Utah Hamrick and drummer Scott Laningham, serves up this annual holiday favorite with two shows; tickets moved fast for this one, so hope you snagged yours. Pro-tip: Snoopy will be in the lobby. $22. 5 and 8 p.m. 713 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — P.B.

Saturday: Jonas Brothers at the Erwin Center. After a six-year hiatus, a tense drinking game (captured on film in Amazon documentary “Chasing Happiness”) helped the brothers Jonas clear the bad blood and come back together as a group. With a stellar showing on “Saturday Night Live,” an excellent turn on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert and sold-out shows around the country, the reunion has been triumphant. As the tour hits Austin during the holiday season, we expect the brothers to make the set list merry with their festive new jingle jam, “Like It’s Christmas.” Bebe Rexha and Jordan McGraw open. $39.95-$499.95. 7:30 p.m. 1701 Red River St. uterwincenter.com. — D.S.S.

Saturday: KUT & KUTX Holiday Sing-Along at the Texas Capitol. In a time-honored holiday tradition, KUTX DJs John Aielli and Elizabeth McQueen lead Austin’s favorite large-scale caroling event from the steps of the Capitol. KUT reps will hand out complimentary commemorative songbooks for anyone who wants to join the chorus. The singalong kicks off at 6 p.m., followed by the lighting of the Capitol tree at 7 p.m. After the main event, merry-makers are invited to stroll Congress Avenue, where they can visit with Santa, peruse the holiday market and take in free tunes from Max Frost, Mobley and Alesia Lani. 1100 Congress Ave. kutx.org. — D.S.S.

Monday: Conspirare Christmas at Long Center’s Dell Hall. Austin’s Grammy-winning choral group, led by 2013 Texas State Musician honoree Craig Hella Johnson, promises a program “bridging everyday songs with seasonal favorites.” This year’s special guests are Nicole Joseph and the African Children’s Choir, joining more than two dozen Conspirare singers and an instrumental support cast including renowned jazz guitarist Mitch Watkins. 701 W. Riverside Drive. thelongcenter.org. — P.B.

Monday-Tuesday: Graham Reynolds Ruins the Holidays at Long Center’s Rollins Theatre. Reynolds, one of Austin’s leading independent composers for well over a decade, promises to “wreak musical havoc on a set of holiday favorites” in the concert hall’s intimate Rollins Theatre. Reynolds converts many of the classic carols into minor keys, casting his introspective renditions in a haunting light. $29. 7:30 p.m. 701 W. Riverside Drive. thelongcenter.org. — D.S.S.

Wednesday-Thursday: Radney Foster at Saxon Pub. A Del Rio native, Foster moved to Tennessee for college and ended up in Nashville, first making his mark in country music with the late-’80s duo Foster & Lloyd. A subsequent string of solo albums included songs that became hits for artists including Keith Urban, the Dixie Chicks, Sara Evans and Hootie & the Blowfish. His most recent project, “For You to See the Stars,” is both a book and an album. $25. 7 p.m. 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. thesaxonpub.com. (Foster will gear up for this two-night stand with an Austin360 Studio Sessions performance at noon Wednesday streaming live on the Austin360 Facebook page.) — P.B.
