Country trap kingpin Lil Nas X added to Jmblya lineup
Lil Nas X, is riding high atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts for the third week in a row with his song "Old Town Road." Austinites will get a chance to hear it live next month, when the 19-year-old rap breakout plays Jmblya at the Circuit of the Americas. He joins headliners Travis Scott, Lil Wayne and Kevin Gates along with Da Baby and Jpegmafia, who were also just added to the bill.
The current chart-topping version of "Old Town Road" is a remix of Lil Nas X's country trap jam featuring Miley Cyrus' "Achy Breaky" dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. The original track caught fire online -- propelled, in part, by a shout out from Justin Bieber -- in late March. It went viral on the video sharing platform Tik Tok, where it spawned the Yee Haw Challenge.
The song originally debuted on Billboard's rap chart, country chart and Hot 100 simultaneously, but Billboard yanked the song from the country chart shortly after it was released. The move was controversial, given country music's long-standing lack of racial diversity. Through a statement, Billboard reps told Rolling Stone: “upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

The controversy might have further inflated the song's popularity and according to Time Magazine, Lil Nas X signed to Colombia Records in late March after "an intense bidding war."
