If you're intrigued by this year's impressive lineup for the Old Settler's Music Festival but are more inclined for a single-day trip to the Lockhart-area event than a weekend camping excursion, here's the news for you: The fest has released its day-by-day lineup, with single-day tickets available.
Friday's big headliner is four-time Grammy winner Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, playing an acoustic set. The band's fiddler, Amanda Shires, also will play her own set that day. Other Friday highlights include bluegrass legends the Del McCoury Band, red-hot Austin acts Shinyribs and Black Pumas, acclaimed Americana act Mandolin Orange of North Carolina, and Oklahoma singer-songwriter John Moreland.
Topping Saturday's bill is Seattle shining star Brandi Carlile, who might have some new Grammys in tow in a few weeks (she's nominated for six awards at the February ceremony). Louisiana jammers Galactic, rising blues-rocker Samantha Fish, and a diverse trio of Austin acts — Hayes Carll, Wild Child and Wood & Wire — help fill out Saturday's bill.
The fest opens Thursday with five acts, including Mississippian Paul Thorn and Austin's Jaimee Harris, and concludes Sunday with Shinyribs reclaiming its traditional fest-closing role after being absent last year.
Single-day tickets for Friday or Saturday ($89) and Thursday or Sunday ($40) are on sale now via the festival's website. A four-day pass is $169, with extra costs for camping.
That weekend is shaping up to be a big one for Americana music in the wider Austin area. In addition to Old Settler's, held on private land in Tilmon a few miles southeast of Lockhart, April 12-13 has also been announced the dates for the new Western Festival in the hill country burg of Luckenbach, with performers including Ryan Bingham, Old 97's, Jamestown Revival and others. And the Whitewater Amphitheatre in New Braunfels opens its spring season April 12-13 with shows by Willie Nelson & Family plus opener Tyler Childers.
