Song premiere: "Oklahoma" by Austin songwriter Terry Klein
Following up his 2017 debut album "Great Northern," Austin singer-songwriter Terry Klein returns next month with "Tex," due out Jan. 25, 2019. He worked once again with longtime Saxon Pub mainstay Walt Wilkins, who also produced Klein's first record.
The ten songs on "Tex" lean toward literary-oriented Americana. Klein recruited several top Austin instrumentalists to help him record it, including fiddler Warren Hood, pedal steel ace Kim Deschamps, drummer John Chipman, percussionist John Bush and multi-instrumentalist Ron Flynt.
Singer Jaimee Harris also contributes background vocals on four tracks, including "Oklahoma," which we're premiering on Austin360 today:
Klein calls the song "an honest, compassionate portrayal of a guy going through some stuff. He's tempted to give up, to turn around, but he keeps going." He adds that "one of the primary attributes of my songs is that I'm reluctant to judge and reluctant to allocate blame. Allocating blame gets in the way of truth."
Upcoming local shows for Klein include Dec. 16 and Jan. 20 at New World Deli, plus a two-night stand at the Townsend on Feb. 15-16.
