Video premiere: Austin rapper Kydd Jones releases 'Dripped Up / Brand New'
Our Austin360 Artist of the Month for October is Kydd Jones, a lyrical ace who's spent over half his life spitting rhymes in Austin and beyond. We'll have a full feature on Jones before his weekend two performance at Austin City Limits festival, but for today, we're happy to premiere his new video "Dripped Up/Brand New."
Directed by Chino Chase, the video transitions between two separate tracks. Jones says he remembers going through samples for the first track "Dripped Up" with his son dozing on his chest. "He had to be like nine or 10 months at the time," Jones says. "When the songs comes on he still lights up as if he had co-produced it with me."
He feels like everyone has a different drip or swag. "You might be at the 9 to 5 dripping a check or just left the Gucci store spilling a mess. You walk around 'Dripped Up' holding your own in however way coming," he says.
He originally dropped the second track, "Brand New," produced by TyOnDaTrack, with French clothing brand Maison Kitsune. He wanted it to be "fun and sexy ..something for the fellas and the ladies to ride out to or turn up in the club or party to," he says. The video was shot at 512 Brewery in Austin.
In addition to playing Austin City Limits Festival on Weekend two, Jones will play a late show at Stubb's indoor on Oct. 6 after the Brockhampton show on the big stage. He'll drop by our studio for a Facebook Live session on Oct. 9.
