Sponsored: Soulful enchantress Meiko to play Austin360 Studio Sessions
Fun fact: I actually squealed with excitement when I saw that Meiko is coming to town to playSt Stubb’s BBQ (tickets still available, shop at www.MeikoMusic.com) on Wednesday, April 12th. Meiko’s music is extraordinary to be sure, but she’s got a special magic that comes across when she’s playing live.
I first met Meiko when she and her then boyfriend, now husband, were guests of mine in a sleepy beach house out on Fire Island, New York. It was the summer of 2010, and obviously, me and my closest friends thought it was particularly cool to meet a professional singer who recently had one of her songs featured on Grey’s Anatomy. Meiko was in town from LA (sidebar: She and her husband have since moved to Nashville and recently welcomed a baby, hence the title of her latest EP, “Moving Day”). But I digress… After a typical beach day we went out for dinner and drinks. Where we ended up there was an “open mic” night that wasn’t going so well. We immediately began our campaign to have Meiko play for us. She didn’t have her guitar with her, nor a plan, nor time to “warm up” or otherwise make herself comfortable in this completely new space with an audience of diners who weren’t paying attention to anyone.
But, never mind that. Meiko is an Artist. And a great one at that. So she borrowed someone’s guitar. Walked up to the microphone. And began.
She sang. She played. She stomped her feet... AND. WE. WERE. ALL. ENCHANTED. I mean, she literally and elegantly shut the place down. Conversations stopped. Waiters stopped. Everything stopped as she sang and stomped and drew attention to her like a magnet.
Hence my delight in having her on Studio Sessions this Wednesday April 12th, at 12pm Central Time. You can tune in from wherever you are by going to our @Austin360 page on Facebook and catching our Facebook Live feed. Or you can tune in on our Studio Sessions page which flips from website to a live-streamed broadcast at 12pm Central Time. Fun fact: It flips back to website when we’re done around 12:30 and you can check out previously recorded episodes.
Either way, mark your calendar and tune in live as Meiko and her music are an all out treat.
